High on Haleakala

By Andy Dubois

I like to think of Haleakala as “the mountain of forgotten dreams” since the hike is pure magic. It is truly one of Mother Earth’s jewels and will remind you why you love to explore.

If you are looking to get a natural high, the sunrise and sunset are spectacular from the peak. The colors are quite powerful.

You can drive up to the top or hike- depending how adventurous you are feeling.

Be sure to listen to Trevor Hall’s Haleakala inspired song to prep yourself for the ethereal beauty of the landscape.

We recommend :: If you are not on a tight time schedule, look into renting a cabin. Also, if you are planning on going for sunrise, make sure you arrive when the stars are still shining so you can experience Haleakala’s tapestry of shooting stars.

How to get there :: When you enter Haleakala in your GPS, re-write the directions on a piece of paper since the cell connection can get spotty on the mountain. To head to the summit, drive as high as the road will take you.
